CHMS Band Blog

Hello everyone! Our concert is on December 13th (2 weeks away!) at Elkton High School. The show starts at 7pm and students will need to arrive in the band room between 6:15 and 6:30. Concert dress is black pants (or long skirts), white dress tops, and boys should wear a tie. Please do not be late! I am looking forward to sharing a GREAT concert with you all.

Come tomorrow to Pat’s Pizzeria in Elkton anytime between 11am and 9pm (take out or dine in only) and support our music department! Our budgets have been cut and we need new equipment! Bring the attached coupon and I hope to see you all there.

Welcome to the new school year! I can’t wait to get started.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), 6th grade band members will meet and schedule auditions.

Wednesday, 7th and 8th grade band members will meet and schedule auditions.

Thursday, Friday, and Tuesday will be audition days.

We will begin full band rehearsals on Wednesday 9/7 for Concert Band and Thursday 9/8 for Symphonic Band.

Lessons will begin the following week.

CHMS Band and Chorus will be performing at a Lancaster Barnstormers (minor league baseball) game on June 10th! There will be bus transportation for students. This is an awesome performance opportunity and it will be a lot of fun! The tickets are $22 per person and this activity is a fundraiser for the CHMS music department. I hope a lot of you sign up- it will be a great way to end the year. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi everyone!

County Band Festival (7th and 8th grade only) will be NEXT Thursday 3/24 during the school day. This is a very important event for our band, where we play for judges and receive scores. It is crucial that students be on their best behavior and are prepared for this event.

Things to remember:

Students are required to wear their concert black and white. Refer to your band handbook if you have any questions about that.

Students need to bring $3 for lunch. (pizza, juice, etc.)

Lastly, I am still missing permission forms from about half of the band. Please get those in as soon as possible!

For everyone playing a solo at Solo and Ensemble festival next Saturday the 12th, we are rehearsing with our accompanist tomorrow during school. Make sure you’re prepared by having your music, instrument, and knowing your music inside and out!

If anyone has a practice chart for the 2nd marking period that they have not turned in yet- it needs to be turned in TOMORROW!

It’s been a long time since I have updated!  However, here’s some pressing information for you.  All County Band forms were passed out last week and I will need those back NO LATER than Friday by 8AM.  Ask your child if they have been given a piece to rehearse for all county and make sure that you sign it in all THREE highlighted places for soloists- TWO places for ensembles. If they lost the forms, I need to know ASAP.

We’re getting to the end of the marking period and some people will need make-up lessons.  The Elkton Town Band is performing this Sunday (10/17) 7pm at Elkton High School and if you attend this concert, it can count as one make up lesson.  Come see me and several other Cecil County teachers (including Mr. Schneider from Cecil Manor).

Also, remember to fill out your practice logs!  They are due again the week of October 27th.
